Laney Amplification officially launched Tony Iommi’s signature amp, the TI100, at Frankfurt Musikmesse International music tradeshow. Here’s Laney’s press release…
It’s been four decades since Black Sabbath unleashed Heavy Metal onto an unsuspecting world and became a truly global musical phenomenon. We at Laney are extremely proud to have played a part in this sonic revolution – back in the day Tony Iommi’s amp of choice was a Laney L100BL.
Since this auspicious day Laney’s association with Tony Iommi has gone from strength to strength resulting in the launch of his first signature model, the GH100TI, originally called the GH100S, almost 20 years ago.
We are extremely proud of our association with Tony Iommi and very happy to be able to announce the launch of a new Tony Iommi signature amp – the amazing TI100.
The new Tony Iommi TI100 signature amp represents a dramatic leap forward in guitar tone.
“Born out of an exhaustive period of product development, carried out hand in hand with Tony, with Tony bringing unique insight, suggestions and innovations at every stage of the process, whilst continually assessing and refining the sonic character of guitar tone.”
The result – what we think will be the most significant amp launch of 2012.

Joe Satriani, one of the most respected and innovative guitarists in the world today stars in ‘Satchurated: Live in Montreal’. ‘Satchurated’ was filmed live during Satriani’s ‘The Wormhole Tour’, supporting his studio album ‘Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards’ at the Metropolis in Montreal, Canada.
The concert was filmed by Grammy and Emmy award-winning concert filmmakers Pierre and Francois Lamoureux. With a total of ten cameras working to capture the sold-out concert, the high-definition filming makes Satriani’s play as much a pleasure to watch as it is to hear.
Every chord change is captured and presented as if one were experiencing a living room concert of your very own! Over the last two decades, Satriani has traveled the world, playing to sold out crowds as both a headliner and as founder of the all star ‘G3′ guitar extravaganza. His studio and live recordings have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide to date and of his many solo albums, two have gone platinum and four others went gold, with 15 Grammy nominations between them.

Laney Amplification has announced that both Adam Dutkiewicz and Joel Stroetzel of Killswitch Engage will be using its Ironheart range for live appearances.
“I’m very excited to be on board with the Laney family,” said Adam. “The Ironheart sounds musical, punchy, and loud…a great live head for sure. One sick riff box!”
The guitarists will also be using said sick riff boxes in the Killswitch spin-off Times Of Grace, so basically things are going to get ‘very Laney’ in the Killswitch camp.
Chris Taylor, Artist Relations manager at the amp manufacturer says this:
“We are extremely proud to welcome Adam and Joel to the Laney family of endorsees. Adam and Joel represent the present and future of metal, a genre that was started with the sound of Tony Iommi’s Laney amplifiers in 1970.”
The band recently welcomed back original lead singer Jesse Leach (who’s been keeping himself busy with the likes of Times Of Grace and The Empire Shall Fall), following the departure of vocalist Howard Jones and are due to perform at this year’s Download festival on 9 June.

The snare drum is the keystone of any drummer’s sound. At some point in the musical journey, the player will embark on a search for the perfect drum to enhance their sound. With that player in mind, Tama have created the S.L.P. series. Tama’s extensive research and development process led to a varied offering of S.L.P. shell materials. Thickness and the specific parts were experimented with to find each shell material’s full sonic potential. There are four metal shells and four wood ones and they follow classic, time tested sizes and designs. Here are some details and sprecification of the range:
Classic Maple
With its Maple shell, this snare drum is a great example of what the S.L.P. series snare drum concept is all about. The combination of this choice of a hardwood shell, Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snappy Snares and Sound Arc Hoop results in a fully open and resonant sounding drum.
Power Maple
This combination of a 6.5″ depth Maple shell and a 42-strand Snappy Snare gives this drum a powerful, open and resonant sound. A beautiful Maple Burl outer ply complemented by our Midnight finish is a perfect match with the Black Nickel hardware.
G-Maple
This very thick 13-ply 10mm Maple shell, combined with die-cast hoops creates a bright, powerful sound with surprising volume.
G-Bubinga
This 12-ply 10mm Bubinga shell provides an extraordinarily punchy sound with a large helping of low-end. The combination of 2.3mm flanged hoops and low-mass separate lugs allow the Bubinga shell to resonate more naturally.
Super Aluminum
This drum features a thicker Aluminum 1.6mm shell with a uniquely wide internal 15mm flanged edge. Add to that a center ridge and new Sound Arc Hoops, and the vintage style sound is enhanced by a new layer of crispness and sustain. It’s also very powerful, which is a characteristic not typically found in other generic aluminum snare drums.
Vintage Steel
The Steel shell’s powerful projection, plus the Sound Arc Hoops add sustain, wider tuning range and a fuller frequency response. This drum sounds great tuned low or high. By using the Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snappy Snare, this drum generates a rich and dry response, reminiscent of many vintage drums.
Black Brass
By using a relatively thicker Brass 1.5mm brass shell, the Black Brass model provides fat powerful sound combined with warm resonance. This sound is a natural characteristic of Brass. A 2.3mm flanged hoop adds to the open sound, and a 42-strand Snappy Snare exhibits a distinct and desirable buzz.
Sonic Steel
This 1.2mm 13″ Steel shell delivers a wide range of sound as well as feel. For instance, when tuned high it creates a remarkable crisp, sharp and open sound.
